The American Horticultural Society Encyclopedia of Plants and Flowers is a tome published by Dorling Kindersley. This has got to be more of the most expensive books my wife and I have bought. It set us back over two hundred ringgit. Somehow, when it comes to books, we never feel the pinch.

The Encyclopedia of Plants & Flowers is a riot of horticulture, with practically every garden plant imaginable. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of photos in here, as each plant is carefully categorized. As the encyclopedia was published for the American Horticultural Society, the plants lean towards those of North America, with maps showing different climates and the plants suitable for each of them. Although many of the plants are not suitable for the tropics, we buy it not because we intend to go any actual gardening - we don't garden, in fact - but simply to enjoy the photos.

The plants in this encyclopedia are divided into various categories including roses, climbers, perennials, annuals, biennials, rock plants, blubs and water plants, to name some. There is also categories for cacti, trees and shrubs. If you enjoy plants, this is one book to have on your little bookshelf.
